The social season
Every Friday night in season is Pub Night on the deck. Around it the Social and Race Committees run a summer of events. Members may always bring guests; there is no dress code. Most events ask a modest contribution that covers dinner and refreshments, and some are potluck. Recent seasons have included:
- Docks In and Docks Out work days, spring and fall
- Club barbecue and pig roast with live music
- Reggae night on the deck, followed by fireworks
- Ron Gibbons Memorial Regatta
- Fish fry with live music
- Edmund Tarbell Regatta, surf and turf with live music
- Lobsterman's bake (members only)
- Single Handed Regatta and Lobster Double Handed Regatta
- Launch driver appreciation night and the anniversary potluck (the club marked its 70th in September 2026)
The current calendar is emailed to members and posted on the clubhouse bulletin board. Contact the Social Chair, Alison Magill (alimagill@gmail.com), for events, and the Rear Commodore, Sally Elshout (sallyelshout@yahoo.com), for racing and regattas.
Racing
Club racing takes place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings through the season, with regattas on selected weekends. Racers and members are asked to carpool on race nights, since parking is limited. Notices of race, sailing instructions and results are distributed by the Race Committee.
Education program
The Fleet Captain, Adam Shapiro (adamhshapiro@gmail.com), organizes education events for members based on member interest. Past seasons have offered, with partners including Maine Maritime, Boatwise and New England Ropes:
- Survival at sea tactics and survival equipment seminars
- Marine electronics, basic navigation and advanced navigation classes
- USCG launch operator and USCG Master (captain's) courses
- NASBLA safe boating certification
- Marine ropes seminar, anchoring workshop, and first aid, CPR and AED certification
Upcoming classes are announced by email with registration deadlines and costs.
